New Life Church History

A group of friends met to worship together in a house in Blaenffos in 1990. This became New Life Community Church, which eventually moved out into a rented hall in Crymych.

In 1998 Doug & Janice Bell took on the leadership and moved the church from Crymych to Cardigan and the name was changed to New Life Church Cardigan.

They believed that the Lord was going to give them a home and He did just that. In July 2000 the churched moved into their present location – New Life Christian Centre on Quay Street and within twelve months the property was paid for.

The mandate for the church was to worship, pray and seek the Lord, before doing anything else. It is something the church still does today. After three years they believed it was time to start moving out into the community and had a prophetic word from a known prophet to confirm this.

One of the first outreaches that the church did was provide a free Christmas lunch for people in the community who were on their own or wanted to join together with a larger family.  This has grown over the years and now there are between 60-70 people every Christmas day who enjoy lunch together.

In 2004 New Life Community Projects was registered to work in the community through furniture removals, collections, sales, restorations and provision. A property was purchased in 2005 and this work is growing and opening up avenues into helping and working with the community, also creating much needed employment & training.

In 2006 the church started a Christian School for children between the ages of 3 and 18, teaching Christian values through the knowledge and love of God.  This has now become an education facility and the name has changed to New Life Tuition Centre and it gives support to home-educated children and their families.

In 2009 Doug and Janice believed the Lord told them to start collecting food because there was going to be a great need.  Three weeks after they started to look into how they could do this, someone from the Trussell Trust contacted them and asked if they would like to start a Foodbank in Cardigan.  This confirmed to them that they were doing the right thing.

New Life Church Cardigan became the second Foodbank to operate in Wales with Trussell Trust and today is very busy supporting people who are in a crisis situation. The Foodbank has tremendous support from the very generous giving of individuals, churches and schools.

New Life Church Cardigan also enjoys fellowship with other churches in Cardigan and the leaders get together on a regular basis to pray and support one another as well as joining together in different events throughout the year.

In 2013 Doug and Janice believed it was time to start transitioning the church into having a new leadership team.  Rhiannon Thomas has worked very closely with them for a number of years and they believed she was to take on the Senior Pastors role.

The transition was completed 31st January 2016 and Doug and Janice have now stepped into an apostolic oversight role while Rhiannon Thomas has become the Senior Pastor and a new eldership team has joined her to carry on the work of New Life Church Cardigan.

New Life Christian Centre is open seven days a week to provide a place of help and refuge.
